Talk about our 2nd Guest Speaker
On February 14, we had the honor to have Matt Tolintino speak to us. Matt Tolintino actually sat in the same room as us today as he was in Andrew Fry's class. His journey was very interesting as he worked for intel for 15 years! He then decided to create his own company to help support firefighters and enhance their safety. His company was called Namatad. Namatad was an organization that was created with the intent to enhance the safety of firefighters while they rushed into a burning building. At first, he explained that he was stumped because he couldn't figure out how to come up with an idea that would work. Then he eventually developed a breakthrough. His product was called Firefly. He created a system where he implemented drones that would survey around the building. He also created a beacon that the firefighters would wear to pinpoint their exact location. He wanted to create a 3D environment of the building using Unity, a game engine. Also during a fire, they have to disconnect the power source, disrupting Wi-Fi and the ability to operate the feed to the drones. To combat that, they installed a server on the fire trucks. He mentioned that there is not a innovative way to communicate with the fire fighters as the only tool they have been using is radio communication. I thought that his company was very unique and I like the idea that he fixing a huge problem in our world. I feel like this technology can be implemented into the military and police force.
